CANON POINT: Post Lantern Rite, 2.4
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: There's no canon age but she appears to be between 16 to 19 years old.
APPEARANCE: Here you go!
CONTRACT PAYMENT: For her business to be successful and have her undertakers to be well off.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
Family means everything to Hu Tao. Otherwise, she wouldn’t work so hard to keep her family business going for 77 generations. With the weight of this on her shoulders, she knows she has to uphold her family traditions as she does not want to disappoint them. Throughout her story quest, she remarks about her family’s history with the Archeon war and how they used to be doctors. It shows how much pride she has in her family. This was proven when she did her best to hold the best funeral for her late grandfather at the young age of 13. Not only did she want to show the world that she was more than capable, she also wanted to show her highest respect to her grandfather. Speaking about him, this also shows how much she greatly respects her family as she went out of her way to go to The Border to say her final farewell. Despite trying to find him for two days, she didn’t give up until she found her answer. Once again, this shows how much family means to her.
As for those who are a part of her family, it would be people who work for her. Since she is without any family members for five years, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see those who work for her as family. She has no problem teasing them in a familial sense. However, the problem is she isn’t sure if they think the same way given how people don’t like her. After all, they are still her employees. She’s not quick to say that they are a part of her family just yet as they are part of her business. They have contracts to fulfill.
What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?
Hu Tao has many hobbies! When she’s not busy with her business, she likes to spend her time writing poetry or playing pranks with the locals. She is known to go out late at night and write poetry. In fact, she is known to performing poetry battles with Xingqiu and Chongyun whenever she has the time! Her pranks are lighthearted as it’s a means to fill her time to avoid boredom. She mentioned how boredom was worse than death and thus, she would do anything to keep herself entertained. These pranks include surprising people like Xiangling as she is easy to scare and give random names to the lion statues since she viewed them as her “children”. When she was finished with them, she remarked how the statues grew up and they don’t need her anymore.
That being said, despite how silly she can be, she knows when to get serious. She knows when to be strict about her business and when it is time for hobbies. Throughout her story quest, she did not stop finding “Big G” until she found her answer. While she did take a momentary pause to help a local out with his problems, it was only because the issue was easy to resolve. Luckily, she also knows when to take a break from her duties as she is someone who likes to live life to the fullest!
Your Faction leader, not just your boss but the leader, has asked you to carry out a hit. The target is a non-affiliated public leader, well-liked by the people of the city. Do you carry it out? Why or why not?
Despite Hu Tao’s association with death, she is ultimately a person with good morals and strong ideals. She will only kill someone if they absolutely deserve it. Even then, she would hesitate as she has a great respect for death. She will not cut someone’s life short. That being said, carrying out a hit on a well-liked person could go either way as she isn’t someone who sees things purely in black and white. Was this well-liked person evil in any way? Did they do some unspeakable act that required a hit? If he is truly evil, then she would put a stop to their actions.
Now if the person truly is a good person, Hu Tao would refuse to kill them no matter what. In the end, she knows what her convictions are. She will accept responsibility and accept punishment.
How do you define "failure"? How do you deal with the consequences of failure, from light to severe?
Honestly? Hu Tao would define “failure” if every single attempt to do something does not succeed. She is someone that always tries to look at everything from a different angle given her job as a funeral parlor. Since nobody wants to buy a coffin, she needs to think of various marketing strategies to be “successful”. Additionally, her definition of “failure” would also be disappointment from her family. She has the weight of 76 generations under her shoulder. Should she fail to keep the business running, that would be disastrous.
With this, she already knows the consequences of failure well. From the lightest, it would be losing potential clients. The most severe is letting her family down along with her undertakers.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Talent List
Hu Tao's element is pyro, that means most of her power is fire based. Additionally, since she fights with a pole arm, a lot of her attacks are wide. She also has the ability to phase through her enemies whenever she runs. When Hu Tao enters her Paramita Papilio state, that means her health powers drop to 50% in order to deal greater damage to her enemies. However, she can regain her HP whenever she hits an enemy during that state.
Also, she is the ability to make two different dishes. One is normal and the other is "Suspicious". Regardless, they both still have the same ability to help heal people.
SUITABILITY: Hu Tao is well aware of the nature of death. With this, she knows how unsightly it is to see how people die. This can include unspeakable things people can do to others. She knows how the world works. She has worked with the Fatui, an organization that can be questionable at best and is aware of what the Liyue Qixing can do. She knows of treasure hoarders who can also do dangerous things to others. Hu Tao is also used to fighting and violence given how much she travels. She has no problem fighting various monsters and hilichurls.
While she might struggle with the lifestyle within the game, it would not surprise her as she knows the darkness of people’s hearts. After all, she already works around dead people.
FACTION SUITABILITY:
The Shuten Clan - Despite Hu Tao not being interested in becoming the best in strength, she is very passionate in her ideals. She has no problem in expressing her emotions and letting her opinion be heard. She is a hard worker and will do whatever it takes to make sure that her business keeps on running. Should she be in this clan, Hu Tao would more than likely try to befriend the leader and play various pranks with him to get on his good side. This would allow her to slowly influence him to see if there’s a better way to settle disagreements with discussion rather than violence.
If anything, she would have a discussion with the various other groups about the importance of humility too as being brash isn’t always a good thing. It would make people think you’re trying too hard, right?
The Tamamo Clan - Hu Tao isn't naive to the pleasures of the human body. However, she would struggle to accept the ideals of this clan given her upbringing. A person needs to be modest and avoid temptations unless one is married. That being said, she is already familiar with the idea of teasing people and has no problem with flirting should the situation come up. She knows how to be mischievous and play various pranks towards others. Despite knowing that she needs to take care of her business, it doesn’t stop her from occasionally avoiding her responsibilities to do something more interesting. Should she be in this clan, she would have difficulty in accepting the leader’s views but she would go along if certain boundaries are set in place.
As long as Hu Tao doesn’t have to do anything extreme such as having sex, she should be okay.
The Department of the Enma - Hu Tao would do best when it comes to the side of justice. As previously mentioned, she has good morals and will do what she feels is best to maintain peace. However, her morals can clash as she wants to do what she thinks is right. She did try her best to bury QiQi thinking that she was a zombie who couldn’t find peace in death. Even so, she apologized and tried to do the right thing by making amends. Should she be in this clan, she would do well as she ultimately wants to do the right thing.
Even if she isn’t exactly the most orderly person, she still believes in justice.
The Sutoku Alliance - Hu Tao would do well when sided with a clan that focuses on commerce. It isn’t any different from how Liyue runs its country and how she runs her business. Since it is about engaging with trade and exchange of information, she would feel most comfortable as she is used to negotiations and the fulfillment of contracts. She has a business to run with her parlor after all! Should she be in this clan, she could provide information to the leader about marketing techniques that could help with business.
That and she would get along with the leader. Can’t say no to someone who likes to take the simple pleasures in life.
